Something about Baseball gets the juices flowing. While I am a fan of football and used to be serious about football statistics, I am not anymore. Basketball is the same way. I have become a casual fan. But, Baseball is different. Maybe it's because two jabronis kept hawking me to get involved with their fantasy baseball league back in 2002. Knuckleheads. I think I am still receiving spam for saying 'no' to their requests. I should be thankful. It could have been worse.
But, I did say yes to get re-involved in baseball. I say re-involved because there was a period where I just didn't follow baseball. After the baseball strike in about 1994, I didn't have much use for baseball. Their reasons don't matter. Mine don't either. Now, during the winter, I am still only a casual observer of football and basketball. And, I don't even pay attention to the Baseball Hot Stove League activity. But, come late January and February, I begin to tune in.
I live in Phoenix in the winter. Yesterday, Justin Upton was traded to the Braves. It's a good move for the Diamondbacks. I am a fan of positive clubhouse players. There is nothing wrong with Justin. I just think he needed a change of scenery. He will do great with the Braves. Bring on Martin Prado and a well coached Arizona Diamondback team.
When the World Series is over, the dark days begin. My beloved Detroit Lions are looking forward to the upcoming NFL Draft. NHL. NBA. NCAA Hoops. NASCAR. The PGA. Can I get a 'hollla' for the 'Icelandic Curling League'? Visions of Tracy Morgan utilizing his 'go to' faux up-chuck, dancing in my head. I digress. College Baseball is around the corner. Getting to do my job. February 9th. Youbeknowin.
ReplyDeleteI just want to see what happens when I "reply" versus "add comment" on this blog.
DeleteLooking forward to leaning on you for some baseball insights.
ReplyDeleteI always seem to go back to baseball. Here in Florida, it is definitely football country -- college mainly. The SEC rules down here. Baseball is an afterthought except for March when spring training comes in. Many co-workers tell me they "can't sit through a full baseball game" but they can sit in a tree stand for 8 hours not moving hunting hogs, bear, squirrels and whatever else moves.
ReplyDeleteTo me, taking my son to a spring training game in March in Florida is as close to heaven as possible. Weather is perfect, he asks a lot of questions about the game, and I get to talk with other baseball fans.
Don't get me wrong, if there is a sport on Tv, esp team sports, I will watch. I love football, hockey, hoops, rugby, soccer, etc. But as i said in the beginning, I always come back to the national pastime. Sorry Gator and Seminole fans, it's the Rays and Mets for me.
